Our approach
Aspiring Minds Child Psychology uses evidence-based approaches tailored to each child's needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness practice, and parent management strategies. Sessions are structured and goal-oriented, focusing on helping young people understand connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and develop practical coping skills they can use in everyday life. The team works collaboratively with children and families to build understanding and confidence, creating a warm and supportive environment where young people feel safe to discuss their concerns. Your child's therapist will tailor strategies and techniques based on what may be most beneficial for their individual circumstances, working with them every step of the way to build the skills and confidence they need.
Working with families
The provider works collaboratively with parents and caregivers as partners in their child's care and progress. Parents are involved from the initial assessment through to ongoing treatment, with the first appointment being a dedicated parent interview to discuss concerns, your child's history, and goals. The team provides practical, evidence-based strategies that parents can use at home to support their child's development and wellbeing, recognising that parents and caregivers play a key role in supporting positive outcomes. Parent and teacher questionnaires are gathered as part of comprehensive assessments to gain a holistic perspective from key adults in the child's life. Regular communication and collaborative goal-setting ensure families feel understood, supported, and equipped with effective tools throughout their therapeutic journey.

Your first visit
The first session is a parent interview focused on getting to know your child and understanding your concerns in detail. The psychologist will discuss your child's development, strengths, and any current difficulties you've noticed at home or school. Together, you'll explore how your child's thoughts and feelings may be affecting their daily life and what you hope to achieve through treatment. Following this, sessions with your child focus on building rapport, setting goals, and beginning to develop practical skills and coping strategies tailored to their needs. The psychologist will explain what to expect throughout the process and discuss next steps with you.
