• Our approach

  The Montessori method uses specialised materials and a carefully prepared learning environment to support each child's full development. Children are viewed as naturally eager to learn and capable of directing their own learning with the help of a trained teacher 'guide'. Sessions include mixed-aged classes with uninterrupted work time, choice within limits, and freedom of movement in the classroom. The approach emphasises concentration and respecting each child's pace, avoiding unnecessary help with tasks they can manage themselves. Learning focuses on practical life, sensorial exploration, language, mathematics and cultural education across preschool, primary and lower secondary classes.

• Working with families

  Parents and caregivers are encouraged to be involved in their child's learning. In preschool classes, an adult usually attends sessions and can interact with their child as much or as little as they wish, which also provides opportunity to connect with other families. In primary and secondary classes, parents are also encouraged to become involved and network with other adults. Parents receive an initial free consultation to discuss needs and program planning, and further meetings are offered as children progress to support their development. The centre listens to your priorities as your child's learning needs are their focus.

• Meet the team

  The director and lead teacher is Helen McGuire, who holds a Bachelor of Education (Primary), Master of Education (Educational Leadership and Administration), Diploma in Children's Services and two Graduate Diplomas of Education (Montessori). She has extensive experience as a kindergarten teacher, in childcare settings, and in state primary schools across Victoria and Queensland in both management and classroom roles. Helen maintains current Queensland Teacher Registration and holds a Blue Card Exemption Card, with up-to-date First Aid, Anaphylaxis and asthma qualifications. She is described as a calm and very experienced teacher.

• Your first visit

  The initial consultation is a free 30-minute session where parents and the teacher discuss your child's needs, expectations and a suitable program. This meeting can take place face-to-face at the centre, over the phone, or via email, whatever works best for your family. The session covers both program planning and explanation of how you can work with the materials and your child in the classroom. Often these meetings are simply an informal chat about your child and your family's needs. Following this, further meetings may be scheduled as your child progresses to develop and refine their learning program.
