  • Our approach

Play-based therapy guides the sessions at Walky Talky, with a focus on helping children enjoy movement, language, feeding, learning, sleeping and play. The team uses evidence-based strategies and introduces movement through play to make treatment meaningful to each child. Sessions are individually tailored to address specific needs, with therapists working collaboratively to support families. The approach emphasises building strong partnerships with families, open communication and transparency, and enriching family life through connection and play. All staff stay up to date with current literature and attend professional development to ensure children receive best practice care.

  • Working with families

Open communication and strong partnerships with families are core values at Walky Talky. The team provides transparent updates about assessment findings and collaborates with parents to identify meaningful goals. Parents are supported to understand their child's specific developmental needs and are taught strategies to implement between sessions. Education programs help families understand early development and how to support their child through play. The clinic also has a small, intimate family-focused approach and regularly building connections between parents and supporting staff so everyone can thrive together.

  • Meet the team

The multidisciplinary team includes experienced physiotherapists, speech pathologists, an occupational therapist, and a clinical psychologist. Founder Lisa Cargeeg (physiotherapist, 40 years experience) established Step by Step in 2012 and now works alongside her daughters: Alison Mason (physiotherapist, Graduate Diploma Paediatric Neurological Rehabilitation) and Lydia Cargeeg (Clinical Psychologist, Master of Psychology). Chiara Prigmore (speech pathologist, Key Word Sign Presenter) co-founded Walky Talky Baby. All clinicians are required to have at least 10 years of clinical experience and regularly attend conferences and professional development to maintain evidence-based practice. The team also includes additional experienced physiotherapists and speech pathologists across multiple specialisations.

  • Your first visit

A comprehensive initial assessment forms the foundation of care, during which the highly experienced team gets to know your child and family's specific needs. This assessment is followed by a tailored, hands-on program designed to address individual goals. The team works collaboratively from the start, ensuring transparent communication about what they find and what comes next. Flexible options are available, including sessions at the clinic, home, school or park. The assessment helps the family understand their child's specific developmental needs and sets meaningful goals for therapy to follow.
