  • Our approach

Thriving Kids takes a neuroaffirming approach that values and celebrates each child's unique strengths and learning styles whilst supporting their needs. Sessions typically start at the clinic so therapists can get to know your child, then progress to include home, school or community visits based on your goals. The service uses a holistic approach drawing on various therapy tools to support your child in everyday environments, with a strong focus on developing skills and making environments more supportive. Beyond individual skill-building, the team works to increase knowledge and skills in parents and teachers so they can better support your child's participation. Sessions can be clinic-based or mobile, depending on your intervention goals and your child's needs.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to how Thriving Kids works. Parents are actively involved from the first appointment, starting with a parent discussion session and ongoing collaboration throughout assessment and goal-setting. The team works alongside parents and teachers to support your child's participation, recognising that parents' knowledge and involvement are essential to success. Beyond direct sessions, the provider offers training workshops for parents, preschool teachers and school staff on topics including supporting participation in everyday activities, play, emotional regulation and self-help routines. This commitment to building capacity in parents and educators means families are partners in supporting their child's progress.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment begins with a parent discussion and assessment session, conducted either via telehealth or in person. This is followed by an in-person assessment at the Thriving Kids clinic. The assessment process uses a combination of standardised and non-standardised assessments, observation, and discussion with you and your child's teachers to get a thorough picture of your child's abilities and needs relating to everyday activities. After assessment, you'll work together with the team and your child to set achievable intervention goals focused on activities that matter to your family. This collaborative approach ensures the goals are meaningful and support your child to participate more fully in daily life.
