  • Our approach

The Stevenson Practice offers 60-minute therapy sessions with a Senior Clinical Psychologist who is highly skilled in evidence-based techniques tailored to individual needs. Sessions draw on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Remediation Approaches. The practice is committed to providing quality, evidence-based care and specialises in the treatment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders. Sessions are conducted in a professional setting focused on supporting your child's psychological wellbeing and development.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to the assessment process, with parents asked to provide background information and complete rating scales before the appointment. You'll participate in an interview as part of ASD assessments, and the practice requests relevant documentation including school reports, NAPLAN results, and previous professional reports to be forwarded prior to assessment. After the assessment is complete, a dedicated one-hour feedback session is scheduled approximately 3 weeks later, where results are discussed in detail and you receive a comprehensive written report. This structured approach ensures parents remain informed and involved throughout the assessment and feedback process.

  • Meet the team

The Stevenson Practice is led by Dr Caroline Stevenson, a Senior Clinical Psychologist with a B.Sc (Hons), M.Psych, PhD in Clinical Psychology and Fellowship with the Australian Psychological Society (FAPS). Dr Stevenson studied at the University of Sydney and specialises in the treatment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, with extensive expertise in AD/HD assessment and management. She has authored numerous papers and book chapters and is cited in both National and International Guidelines. All psychological assessments and therapy sessions are performed by Dr Stevenson, ensuring consistent, highly-experienced care.

  • Your first visit

Before undergoing a formal assessment, families are asked to attend an initial consultation to discuss clinical concerns and ensure the assessment plan is appropriate. During this 55-60 minute appointment, you'll meet with the Senior Clinical Psychologist who will gather background information and determine which tests and scales are most relevant. You'll be asked to bring any previous reports from speech, language, psychological or occupational therapists, as well as school reports and medical letters if available. The initial consultation helps ensure the assessment battery is tailored to your child's specific needs, and you'll receive pricing information based on the tests required.
