  • Our approach

The Gut Centre specialises in treating gut-brain disorders using evidence-based brain-gut therapies, combining gut-directed hypnotherapy with cognitive behavioural therapy and psychological interventions. Sessions are tailored to each person's specific condition and needs, incorporating the latest research-supported techniques. Treatments have demonstrated approximately 80% efficacy in improving gastrointestinal symptoms long-term. The centre's approach is collaborative and multidisciplinary, drawing on expertise from gut psychologists, hypnotherapists, dietitians and pelvic floor physiotherapists working together. This integrated team approach has been shown through published research to be particularly effective for functional gut disorders.

  • Working with families

The centre takes a collaborative approach with parents and carers as a core part of treatment, liaising with families, GPs, paediatricians, gastroenterologists and school counsellors to provide the highest level of multidisciplinary care. This partnership approach demonstrates a strong commitment to working with parents throughout their child's treatment journey. Parents are involved as essential partners in achieving the best possible outcomes and helping children manage their gut symptoms and overall wellbeing.

  • Meet the team

The Gut Centre has Australia's largest team of GI psychologists, founded and directed by Dr Jim Kantidakis, a clinical psychologist and gut-directed clinical hypnotherapist with over 14 years of experience. The multidisciplinary team includes gut psychologists, gut-directed hypnotherapists, dietitians and pelvic floor physiotherapists, all specialising in functional gut disorders. With clinics across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane plus nationwide telehealth, the team is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, collaborative care.
