  • Our approach

TalkHQ uses innovative, play-based learning where therapy is individualised to each child's unique needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. Sessions utilise a variety of evidence-based strategies including tabletop, floor, computer, iPad and movement activities, with therapists starting by finding what motivates each child and building therapy around their interests and learning style. The team adapts sessions to suit the child's age, developmental stage and temperament—if a child finds it difficult to sit still or concentrate, therapy is shaped around their needs rather than forcing them to fit a specified mould. The goal is to make learning so fun and engaging that children don't realise they're learning, with sessions conducted in vibrant clinics, at home, in school, or online depending on what suits the family best.

  • Working with families

Parent and carer involvement is central to TalkHQ's approach, with regular communication and collaboration built into therapy planning and review. Goals are set together with parents, with the team welcoming parents' and carers' input to ensure therapy goals align with how the child is functioning at home, school and in the community. A key part of sessions involves coaching parents in communication strategies they can practise at home in natural, meaningful environments—this capacity building approach recognises that children spend most of their day with parents and carers, so equipping families with strategies is vital for progress. The team also uses parent-friendly communication methods including electronic forms and text reminders to make the experience convenient.

  • Meet the team

TalkHQ's team includes qualified speech pathologists at various experience levels—from senior speech pathologists like co-owners Jenna Mottin and Alex Hartley (who provide clinical education and leadership) to experienced speech pathologists and newer team members. The team also includes allied health assistants who implement treatment programs developed by the speech pathologists. All clinicians are trained to assess, diagnose and treat communication difficulties through all stages of childhood development using evidence-based practices. The team is united by shared values of respect, trust and care for each other, which creates a vibrant, energetic and collaborative workplace culture.

  • Your first visit

An initial assessment is designed to identify your child's communication strengths and weaknesses and will guide your speech pathologist's approach to ensure the most effective outcomes. The assessment helps uncover breakdowns in communication and sets your child on the path to reaching their greatest potential. You don't need a referral to book an assessment—you can contact the friendly team directly to arrange a time that suits your family. During this process, you'll share your child's communication goals with the speech pathologist, and together you'll work out what the highest priority is for your family to help focus the therapy approaches that will be used moving forward.
