Our approach
Therapy is designed to be engaging and enjoyable for children through play-based activities, interactive games, and personalized learning experiences. Sessions incorporate each child's interests and strengths to create a supportive, motivating environment that encourages active participation and progress. Whether using creative play, visual aids, or storytelling, the objective is to make speech therapy enjoyable while helping children reach their full potential. Services are tailored to individual needs and may include articulation, oral language, social communication, fluency, phonological therapy, AAC, early intervention, and literacy support.
Working with families
Parents are actively involved from the initial assessment through ongoing therapy. The speech therapist conducts detailed parent interviews to gather information about the child's development and concerns, and parents are encouraged to share their observations of their child's speech and language abilities. Home programs are designed and assigned for parents to implement, reinforcing therapy goals and encouraging communication development outside formal sessions. The provider offers parent training to teach techniques and strategies for supporting their child's communication development at home, and for voice therapy specifically, teachers are educated about voice disorders with suggestions for classroom strategies to support healthy voice use.
Meet the team
The team includes Liz Douglas, a Speech Pathologist with over 20 years of experience who specializes in helping neurodiverse children, particularly those with autism, developmental delay, and intellectual disability improve communication and social skills. Dr Marina Robinson is a Speech Pathologist passionate about helping children with language and communication difficulties, trained in Sounds Write and Spalding literacy programs and the Lidcombe program for stuttering, holding a Doctor of Philosophy, Masters, and Honours degree in music. The clinic also collaborates with on-site general and developmental paediatricians and child psychologists to provide coordinated, comprehensive care.
Your first visit
The initial consultation begins with a detailed parent interview to gather essential information about the child's development, medical history, and current communication challenges. The speech therapist asks about developmental milestones such as when the child began babbling, saying first words, and social engagement, as well as any medical conditions affecting speech and language development. The therapist will also engage the child directly in play-based activities with toys and pictures to observe communication skills in a natural, relaxed setting and assess verbal and non-verbal abilities. Following the consultation, formal and informal assessments are conducted using age-appropriate standardized tests and observational methods to evaluate articulation, receptive and expressive language, phonological awareness, and fluency.
