Our approach
Sessions are positive, fun and tailored specifically to each child's needs in a way that enables them to reach their potential. The team believes that children are more engaged in learning that is fun and engaging. Therapy sessions may be weekly or fortnightly and can last 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on the child. Sessions take place in a fun and vibrant kid-friendly space. The multidisciplinary team views each child as a whole person and provides holistic care focusing on what is possible rather than disabilities.
Working with families
Parents and carers are actively involved from the start, with case history gathered and goals discussed following assessment. The team collaborates closely with families, using parent-led and family-centred therapy approaches. Progress is continually discussed with parents session to session, and the team works in conjunction with parents and carers to best support each child. The practice also communicates with other health and educational professionals to ensure coordinated care.
Meet the team
The team includes Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists, all holding at least a Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in their respective fields. Speech Pathologists are registered with Speech Pathology Australia and Occupational Therapists are registered with AHPRA. The team is led by Lauren Miko (Director) and Catherine Morris (Founder and Principal Speech Pathologist), who has over twenty years of experience. The practice also partners with The Feeding Clinic, directed by Irene Orkopoulos, an experienced speech pathologist in infant and childhood feeding difficulties. All therapists are passionate about supporting children and families to achieve communication and life goals in a fun and engaging manner.
Your first visit
At the first appointment, information about the child's development and case history is gathered. Assessment may be formal or informal depending on the child's age and the difficulties identified, and can include standardised tests, direct observation of play and interaction with caregivers, reports from parents or teachers, and analysis of spontaneous speech samples. Following the evaluation, goals and a treatment plan are discussed with the parent. Your child's progress will continually be discussed with you session to session.
