  • Our approach

The clinic provides evidence-based psychological counselling tailored to each client's needs, drawing on cognitive-behavioural therapies, client-centred approaches, compassion-focused methods, and existential philosophy. Sessions focus on building your child's understanding of their vulnerabilities, triggers, and the factors affecting their wellbeing, rather than just reducing immediate symptoms. This deeper self-awareness supports effective self-practice and reduces reliance on the practitioner over time. The approach prioritises purposeful relationships, safety, and authenticity, with strategies carefully chosen to suit each young person's specific situation. Your child's voice and growth are central to how the clinic works.

  • Meet the team

The clinic is a small team of experienced psychologists and mental health practitioners. Dr Jeff Nelson is a Clinical Psychologist who holds a PhD in Psychology/Brain Functioning and a Master of Psychology (Clinical) from James Cook University. His practice encompasses cognitive-behavioural therapies, compassion-focused approaches, and early philosophical methods, with particular expertise in how the brain works and psychometric assessment. He is happy to work with young people from a broad range of cultures, environments, and backgrounds, and is an Aboriginal man from the Cairns region.
