  • Our approach

Psychiatry Support uses a collaborative, client-centred approach grounded in listening and partnership. Sessions combine evidence-based therapies tailored to each person's needs, with psychiatrists offering expertise in medication management, psychotherapy, and specialised techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The team prioritises creating a safe, trusting environment where clients feel heard and valued, working together to develop personalised strategies that empower individuals to navigate challenges. This applies across the lifespan, with particular focus on treating the whole person by integrating biological, psychological, and social factors for meaningful outcomes.

  • Working with families

Psychiatry Support requires a parent or guardian to be present during all adolescent appointments with psychiatrists (aged 6 years and above), ensuring families are directly involved in their child's care. The team's philosophy emphasises collaboration and partnership, prioritising listening to clients' and families' needs and concerns to foster an environment of trust and understanding. Dr Daniel Banos Illan specifically offers whole-family support, and the service values shared decision-making with families and healthcare providers to ensure care is personalised and impactful. While the website does not detail ongoing parent communication protocols, the emphasis on working alongside clients and their families suggests regular engagement throughout the treatment journey.

  • Meet the team

The team comprises experienced mental health professionals including Consultant Psychiatrists (Dr Manoja Kulatunga, Dr Heshan Gunawardena, Dr Vinodhini Krishnan specialising in children and adolescents, and Dr Thet Aung), a Clinical Psychologist Registrar (Dr Daniel Banos Illan), Psychologists (Therrie Rosenvald), Clinical Nurses (Jessica Radloff and Guilliame Gerroto), a Mental Health Accredited Social Worker (Jessica McDonald), and Director Katie Rogers, a Registered Credentialed Mental Health Nurse. Team members hold qualifications including MBBS, MD, FRANZCP, Masters in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, and specialised training in ADHD, autism, and trauma-informed care, with combined experience spanning decades of inpatient, community, and telehealth practice.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment begins after you've obtained a referral from your GP and sent it to Psychiatry Support. Once received, the team contacts you by phone to schedule the initial consultation. For children and adolescents aged 6 years and above, a parent or guardian must be present during the appointment. During the initial assessment, the psychiatrist or psychologist conducts a comprehensive evaluation to understand your mental health needs, establish accurate diagnoses using evidence-based practice, and develop a personalised treatment plan. This foundational appointment sets the direction for your ongoing care and support.
