  • Our approach

Play and Thrive uses a neurodiversity-affirming, strength-based approach delivered in your child's natural environment—whether that's home, school, or community. Sessions focus on fun and connection, with therapy tailored to each child's unique needs and guided by family-focused, child-led goals. The therapists work one-on-one with your child while recognising that parents are the experts in their own children, creating individualised sessions that support your child on their own journey.

  • Working with families

Play and Thrive believe that parents are experts in their own children and actively work with families to meet their children's goals. The service offers parent and/or educator education sessions to help key people in your child's life understand them better and stay across therapy goals, which supports skill transfer across home, school and community settings. The therapists also discuss with you what therapy options are best for your child and provide regular communication to ensure everyone is working towards common goals.

  • Your first visit

The first step involves an assessment where the therapist observes and evaluates your child's function across areas including sensory processing, behaviour, daily living activities, play, motor skills and social skills. This helps identify your child's strengths and areas of difficulty, and supports any funding applications you may need. A comprehensive assessment typically takes 4–7 hours total (including face-to-face time, report writing and a follow-up meeting to discuss findings), while a more informal assessment takes 2–3 hours with observation, screening report and parent interview to set goals together.
