Our approach
Perennial Psychology offers person-centred, evidence-based therapy that is compassionate and collaborative. The approach recognises that starting therapy can feel daunting, and the team is committed to meeting you wherever you're at in your journey. Sessions are individualised to address your specific difficulties, whether that's anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, or coping skills. The clinic takes a humanistic approach to therapy, creating a safe and inclusive space where you can feel seen, heard and supported. Standard sessions run for 50–60 minutes, and therapy can be delivered either in person at the Footscray clinic or online.
Meet the team
Perennial Psychology is led by Caty Gierer, the Director and a Senior Clinical Psychologist who is Board-Approved Supervisor. The team includes Malcolm Corbett-Robertson, a Senior Clinical Psychologist, and Clinical Psychologists Rachel Ng. There are also three Psychologists on the team: Kawai Teng and Aaron Sayers, who are Clinical Psychology Registrars, and Gemma Stocco, also a Clinical Psychology Registrar, alongside Alana Watson, a Psychologist. The clinic is clinician-owned and run, and considerable research shows that the therapeutic relationship between psychologist and client is integral to therapy success – so the team is committed to finding someone you feel you "click with."
Your first visit
Your first session is an opportunity for the team to get to know you – your unique context, your history and what's currently happening in your life. Together, you'll develop a treatment plan and decide on the next steps for your care. The session runs for 50–60 minutes, giving plenty of time for an in-depth conversation. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of your first appointment, and you'll be told about the few exceptions (such as safety concerns or legal issues) upfront. If you have any concerns or questions before your first session, the team is happy to have a psychologist call you back to chat things through.
