Our approach
Mindful Primary uses a hands-on, personalised approach that combines engaging interactive activities—such as educational games, letter tiles, and manipulatives—with targeted instruction tailored to each child's unique learning style and pace. The philosophy centres on fostering a growth mindset, helping children understand that abilities develop through effort and persistence, with an emphasis on the learning process rather than just results. Sessions involve direct, active participation in learning beyond traditional methods, allowing children to grasp concepts more effectively and immediately receive feedback suited to their needs. Tutors create a supportive, nurturing environment where encouragement and positive reinforcement build confidence and a genuine love for learning.
Working with families
Mindful Primary works closely with families through regular communication and a strong partnership approach, recognising that parental involvement is key to each child's success. Rob Orme and Susie Gattuso specifically ensure they understand each child's individual learning needs and goals by maintaining ongoing dialogue with parents. The initial assessment includes a 15-minute consultation where parents receive a tailored learning plan and valuable insights into their child's strengths and areas for development. This collaborative approach means parents are kept informed and supported throughout their child's learning journey.
Meet the team
The team is led by Susie Gattuso, an experienced secondary Mathematics teacher and founder of Mindful Maths Tutoring Secondary, and Rob Orme, an experienced primary school teacher who serves as coordinator. Together with a group of dedicated tutors who are either experienced primary school teachers or pre-service teachers, the team is well-versed in the Victorian curriculum and trained in special needs education. All team members are passionate about helping children succeed and committed to meeting students' individual learning needs. The combination of experience, expertise, and compassion ensures personalised, effective support for every child.
Your first visit
The first appointment is an optional one-hour initial assessment led by the coordinator and educator Rob Orme, consisting of a 45-minute written assessment with your child and a 15-minute consultation with parents. During this time, the tutor identifies your child's current learning level, strengths, and areas where they need extra support in Maths or Literacy. Following the assessment, parents receive a personalised learning plan tailored to their child's specific needs and goals. This gives you clear insights into where your child is at and what targeted support will help them move forward.
