Jackie is a Special Educator Therapist with a Bachelor of Arts, TESOL Certificate, Diploma of Primary Education, and Master's of Special Education from UNSW. She developed reading strategies while homeschooling her two sons with ASD and Intellectual Disability, and now works with preschool children, school-aged children, and adults with disabilities to develop literacy skills while building self-confidence and social communication abilities.

Our approach
Literacy Intervention Therapy uses a flexible, multisensory approach tailored to each child's learning style and ability. Rather than relying on a single commercial reading program, sessions incorporate tools that engage sight, touch and sound to develop alphabet awareness, phonics, blending, vocabulary and decoding skills. Comprehension is built through meaningful texts and visuals related to the child's own life and interests, combined with vocabulary development and structured practice using the Colourful Semantics framework. Writing is taught as a developmental process involving letter formation, handwriting and independent word writing, all supported by multisensory techniques. Social communication skills are woven throughout each learning experience to encourage the development of friendships and relationships.
Meet the team
The practice is led by Jackie, who holds a Bachelor of Arts, Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), Diploma of Primary Education, Masters of Special Education, and a postgraduate qualification in Reading and Literacy. She has personal experience raising two sons with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disability, and has worked as a Special Educator in a special school from 2017-2022. She currently works as a Special Educator Therapist in her studio, supporting a diverse group of primary and high school-aged clients with varying support needs including speaking skills, decoding, reading comprehension and functional numeracy.
