Our approach
Sessions at this practice use a collaborative approach tailored to each person's needs. Your psychologist will help you develop awareness of why you do what you do and your ways of coping with emotions, while providing alternative coping skills to overcome the challenges you're facing. The aim is to support you in believing in yourself and your ability to make positive changes, and to develop important communication and relationship skills. The material worked through is self-paced and dependent on you, with your psychologist acting as an expert guide rather than directing the process.
Your first visit
Your first session is an opportunity to meet your psychologist and develop a comfortable therapeutic relationship together. You'll be invited to share some background history about yourself, your experience of stress, and what you're seeking support for. This helps your psychologist understand you and work collaboratively to help you understand yourself, the impact of different stressors in your life, and the reasons why the symptoms you're experiencing developed. The focus is on building trust and creating a foundation for your therapy journey.
