  • Our approach

Lemon Drops Kids Therapy offers a person-centered, evidence-based approach guided by current research in neuroscience, attachment, trauma and developmental theories. Sessions focus on regulation and relationships, providing a safe therapeutic environment where children and young people can explore, express and integrate challenging emotions and experiences. The therapy philosophy is deeply empathetic and respects each individual's innate drive to reach their full potential and engage in healthy relationships. Services include play therapy, art therapy, youth counselling, interplay therapy and caregiver support, with the balance between directive and non-directive work tailored to each child's needs.

  • Working with families

Caregiver involvement and consultation is an important part of the therapeutic process, particularly for children under 15 years of age. Therapists call caregivers regularly to discuss feedback and progress, and consultation sessions are scheduled every 5-10 sessions, or on request. A child's therapy space is kept safe and separate for them, so updates are not shared in front of the child. Sessions may also include caregiver check-ins, email correspondence, and communication with schools, support workers, GPs or other allied health professionals depending on your child's needs and therapeutic goals.

  • Meet the team

The team includes Julia Firth, Founder and Clinical Lead, who is a BSW, AASW, AMHSW, and APTA Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Play Therapist. Kirra Clarke serves as Director, and Sarah Stevenson is the Practice Manager. The therapy team comprises multiple qualified therapists including Hannah Curran, Silvia Cataudo-Williams, Saya Knox, Kaz Porch, Nerissa Hede, Hazel Brown, Amanda Tuckerman, Di Bones, Jordy Moore, Kate Calder, Carlos Ly, Vineeta Giri, Ruby McKay, Dave Lovegrove, Kalli Brown, Chantel Merendino and Alexi Hogan. The team also includes a nutritionist, administrative staff and a volunteer.

  • Your first visit

The initial consultation, called an Intake session, takes place between caregivers and the therapist without children present and is set aside for 50-90 minutes. The therapist takes time to listen to you, answer questions and explain the process. Together you will discuss current concerns and presenting symptoms, child and family history, make a therapeutic plan and set goals. Young people aged 15 years and over are welcome to attend the Intake session if they choose. This session forms the foundation for understanding your child's needs and beginning the therapeutic journey.
