  • Our approach

An eclectic approach drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Play Therapy and Interpersonal Process Therapy, combined with developmental, neuroscientific, attachment and psychodynamic principles. Sessions incorporate psychoeducation and practical strategies, which might involve role-playing, mindfulness meditation, discussing coping skills, setting goals, or establishing tasks and behavioural experiments to complete at home. The focus is on creating a warm, patient and compassionate space where clients can explore and make sense of their thoughts and feelings, with the aim of building resilience, setting healthy boundaries, and establishing rewarding relationships.

  • Working with families

Parents of children and adolescents under 18 have an initial parent-only consultation to discuss their concerns and their role in therapy. Throughout the counselling process, parents are given the opportunity to communicate with the psychologist as needed. The website emphasises a collaborative approach, and the practice is committed to working with parents to support their child's progress and family functioning.

  • Your first visit

In the initial session, your expectations about therapy will be discussed, goals for treatment identified, and familial and developmental experiences explored to provide context for current difficulties. Policies regarding confidentiality and the ethical code of practice will be explained, and you will sign a consent form. For children and adolescents under 18, an initial parent-only consultation is arranged first, giving you the opportunity to share your concerns and discuss your role in the therapy process. Parents are given the opportunity to communicate as needed throughout the counselling journey.
