Our approach
The I Can Read System teaches children to blend letters to sounds through a structured, cumulative and hierarchical approach that addresses all 44 phonemes in English. Sessions are designed to be interactive and engaging, with teachers introducing one new sound per lesson and showing children how to read, pronounce and spell words containing that sound. The programme is taught by university-qualified teachers specialising in literacy, and parents are asked to support their child at home with sound-letter correspondence using the I Can Read alphabet card. Learning happens in small classes where children progress at their own pace through carefully sequenced workbooks, with pronunciation and comprehension improving as they advance through the levels.
