  • Our approach

Our experienced psychologists tailor evidence-based therapy to each individual client, working with children, adolescents, adults and couples to help them overcome challenges and build positive emotional well-being. In your sessions, you can expect a supportive space where the psychologist gets to know you and understands your specific concerns. The focus is on developing a collaborative treatment plan and exploring strategies that work best for your situation. If one approach doesn't seem to be helping, your psychologist can discuss alternative methods with you, sometimes exploring multiple strategies to find the best resolution. Throughout therapy, the therapeutic relationship between you and your psychologist is essential, and if the fit isn't right, the team can help match you with a different practitioner.

  • Working with families

For younger children, it is appropriate for the parent to stay in the session until the child feels comfortable attending alone. Parents are encouraged to talk with their child about why therapy might be helpful before attending. If a child refuses therapy, the psychologist advises against forcing attendance, but note that seeing you as a parent can be helpful in gaining strategies to respond productively to your child's needs. The practice also communicates with parents before appointments—they will request a copy of your mental health care plan and referral letter if applicable, and ask you to complete client intake forms prior to your first appointment.

  • Your first visit

At your first appointment, you'll check in with the administration team and complete any necessary paperwork, then your psychologist will collect you at your scheduled time. The first session has three main purposes: for you and the psychologist to get to know each other, for the psychologist to understand the problem(s) you're facing, and to develop your therapy goals or treatment plan. Your psychologist will ask you questions relating to the reason you're attending therapy, and the session usually goes quickly. Some clients find it helpful to bring a list of things they'd like to discuss. Your psychologist will then assist you in booking a follow-up session based on your needs, which may be weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.
