About Gymworks OT

At Gymworks, we believe the best way to learn is by actively doing. Our unique, sensory-motor gym-based programme aims to help children in areas such as gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory processing and social interaction in a dynamic and stimulating environment. We believe that giving support as early as possible ensures the best outcomes for your child, and often means less need for intervention at school age.

  • Our approach

Gymworks uses a combined sensory-motor and PRPP approach (Perceive, Recall, Plan, Perform) to help children develop fundamental skills through active movement and problem-solving. Sessions take place in small social groups of four children with two therapists in a multi-sensorial state-of-the-art gymnasium that features suspended equipment, trampolines, foam pits and balance beams. Each week the gym is set up completely differently and themed sessions (animals, space, fairy tales) make therapy interactive and engaging while building listening, attention, memory and motor planning skills. The program embeds continuous feedback and encourages children to think for themselves, work independently and apply skills at home and school.

  • Working with families

Parents are welcome to stay during sessions, particularly initially until the child feels comfortable with the new setting. Gymworks strongly recommends observing as many sessions as possible so you understand how they work with your child and can learn to apply their methods at home. Therapists provide continuous feedback to parents at the end of each session. Once your child has settled in, you can choose to stay in the air-conditioned waiting room with large viewing windows, or wait elsewhere while other children play in a designated area.

All therapists are specially trained to use a problem-solving approach and are passionate about helping children learn to think for themselves.

  • Your first visit

The first step is a detailed developmental assessment to identify your child's specific needs and determine how occupational therapy can help them. The assessment is clinic-based at the multi-sensorial gymnasium. If occupational therapy is recommended after the assessment, you'll be offered a choice of several session times. If your child has already been assessed by another occupational therapist, Gymworks can use their report instead.
