Our approach
At Grow OT, sessions are child-centred and holistic, designed to help children unlock their potential through specialised paediatric occupational therapy. Therapy uses evidence-based interventions tailored to each child's unique needs and delivered in natural learning environments—your home, school, or daycare. Sessions focus on physical, sensory, cognitive, emotional and social aspects of development, with therapists working around your family's schedule. Parents and caregivers receive education, guidance, and training on strategies to support their child's development between sessions, making progress a family effort. The approach relates learning to things that matter to your child, so they feel motivated to achieve their goals and continue to grow.
Working with families
Family involvement is central to the Grow OT approach. Parents and caregivers receive education, guidance, and training on strategies to support their child's development both during and outside therapy sessions. The therapist will discuss your concerns at the initial assessment and works collaboratively with you throughout treatment. Therapists report back to your referring doctor after the initial session and after the final session (when using Medicare rebates). All team members are committed to a family-centred approach, ensuring parents and caregivers feel supported and involved every step of the way.
Meet the team
Grow OT is led by Yasmin, an experienced occupational therapist and director with 7+ years of paediatric clinical experience and a Bachelor's degree from ACU (2013–2017). The team includes Mikaela, a Senior Occupational Therapist with extensive experience across homes, early learning centres and schools, and Shonnie, an Occupational Therapist committed to family-centred, evidence-based practice. Montana and Sophie are Occupational Therapist Assistants—fourth-year and third-year OT students respectively from the University of Sydney and ACU—who bring developing skills, practical placements and a strong passion for family-centred, holistic care. All team members participate in ongoing professional development to continuously refine their expertise.
Your first visit
The first appointment is a 1–1.5 hour one-on-one assessment session conducted in a location that suits your family. During this time, the therapist performs clinical observations, interviews you as the parent or guardian, and uses standardised assessments to understand your child's strengths and weaknesses. You'll discuss your concerns and how occupational therapy can benefit your child, and all this information is used to create an individualised treatment plan. No referral from a doctor or paediatrician is needed—all families with concerns about their child's development can access the service directly.
