Our approach
The therapeutic approach at GOALS Psychology draws on evidence-based frameworks including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and solution-focused brief therapy. Sessions are tailored to individual needs and may include skill-building, psychoeducation, communication and social skills development, and play-based practice for younger children. The team is neuroaffirming and strengths-focused, working collaboratively with clients to identify goals and develop practical coping strategies. Appointments can take place in-person at the Brisbane clinic, via telehealth Australia-wide, or in-home or school/community settings by request.
Working with families
The team works collaboratively with families and carers, incorporating psychoeducation towards shared goals and liaising with clients' wider support teams wherever helpful. For NDIS participants, initial sessions collaboratively establish clear psychological-focused NDIS goals, and psychologists may recommend specific skills practice between sessions to support progress. Parents and carers are recognised as important partners in the therapeutic process, with communication and involvement tailored to support overall family well-being and meaningful change.
