  • Our approach

Occupational therapists at FUNction First use meaningful and relevant activities to help children overcome challenges and achieve their goals. The therapy philosophy centres on enabling function despite any difficulties a child may experience. Sessions are designed to be engaging and enjoyable, with the therapist tailoring activities to what matters most to each child and family. Whether working on specific developmental areas or functional skills, the focus is on making therapy meaningful rather than clinical. The team aims to support children aged 0–18 years in overcoming their individual challenges through practical, activity-based approaches.

  • Your first visit

At a first appointment, you'll have the option of either a screening assessment or a comprehensive assessment depending on your child's needs. A screening assessment is a brief 30–45 minute overview that identifies your child's strengths and any areas where they may benefit from support, helping determine if further intervention is needed. For a more thorough evaluation, a comprehensive assessment takes 1.5–2 hours and provides an in-depth look across multiple developmental areas. After the initial assessment, the therapist will discuss findings with you and, if appropriate, recommend individualised therapy services tailored to your child's specific goals. Appointments can be held at the clinic, your home, or your child's school or daycare for your convenience.
