  • Our approach

The service uses a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities tailored to individual needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, Schema Therapy and others. Therapists work collaboratively with clients to understand their goals and concerns in a safe, non-judgmental environment. The approach prioritises building genuine connection, trust and a therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard and respected. Sessions focus on empowering people to develop and use the skills they have to support their own change. Across the team, practice is trauma-informed, culturally respectful, neuro-affirming and LGBTQIA+ inclusive.

  • Meet the team

The psychology team includes Clinical Psychologists, Registered Psychologists, Clinical Counsellors and Mental Health Clinicians, many of whom are board-approved supervisors. Team members have diverse experience spanning child and adolescent work, trauma, neurodiversity support, eating disorders, perinatal psychology and working with First Nations communities. The team is led by experienced clinicians including an Educational and Developmental Psychologist and Clinical Psychologists with over a decade of experience in the Illawarra region. The service also employs a fully qualified Assistance Dog (Cooper) trained to support therapy sessions, working with designated handlers.

  • Your first visit

At the initial appointment, your psychologist will focus on information gathering and getting to know you and your goals in a welcoming and confidential environment. The clinician will aim to understand your concerns, background and the reasons you are seeking help, often discussing personal history and current challenges. They may ask questions to assess emotional, behavioural and cognitive patterns while explaining the therapy process and answering your questions. This session is an opportunity for you to share openly and for your psychologist to work with you to collaboratively develop an initial treatment plan.
