  • Our approach

Forbes Care takes a practical, goal-oriented approach to occupational therapy, working alongside children and teenagers to create clear pathways toward greater independence, safety and confidence. Sessions are tailored to each young person's goals, environment and needs, using a family-centred approach with interactive, supportive activities that build skills in play, participation, self-care and independence. The team focuses on what matters most to each child, empowering them with the right tools, strategies and supports so they remain in control of their journey. With strong therapeutic partnerships, children build safer routines, stronger confidence and a life that reflects their goals. The service is always individualised and client-centred, taking time to listen and understand before tailoring support.

  • Working with families

Forbes Care takes a family-centred approach, working collaboratively with parents and carers as essential partners in your child's therapy journey. The team takes time to listen, understand what matters most to your family, and communicates clearly throughout each stage—from initial assessment through to planning and recommendations. Parents are involved in setting goals, discussing options and understanding the pathway forward. The administration team is also dedicated to creating a positive, seamless experience for families, ensuring every interaction feels supportive, professional and person-centred, and that families feel heard and confident from their very first contact.

  • Meet the team

Forbes Care is the largest team of senior occupational therapy specialists in South East Queensland, with more than 20 AHPRA-registered occupational therapists supported by a dedicated administration team. The team includes senior clinicians and supervisors with expertise in paediatrics, assistive technology, home modifications, psychosocial services, and complex cases. Specific paediatric team members include Grace, a Senior Occupational Therapist with a Master's in Child and Adolescent Mental Health who supports adolescents and young adults with a neurodivergent-affirming approach, and other senior paediatric specialists committed to high-quality, evidence-based practice. All clinicians work under strong clinical leadership and robust oversight to ensure consistent, high-quality care.

  • Your first visit

The initial appointment is the first step in getting to know each other and understanding your child's needs and goals. Your occupational therapist will work with you to establish your child's current strengths and functional goals, considering their needs, environment and any challenges they may be experiencing. This initial assessment helps the therapist make recommendations tailored to your child's specific situation. Following the assessment, the team will create a goal-based plan and discuss options with you before moving forward with therapy. The focus from the start is on building a strong partnership with you as the parent or carer, ensuring you understand the pathway ahead.
