  • Our approach

At Firm Foundations, therapy is guided by family-centred, evidence-based principles focused on helping children develop skills in their natural environments like home, school, or childcare. Sessions work toward goals that families identify as important, equipping parents with information and strategies to support their child's progress. The therapist comes to you rather than requiring clinic visits, which reduces stress and helps children learn more effectively in familiar, comfortable settings. Sessions can include direct therapy with the child and parent, or coaching for parents and caregivers. The team supports children with fine motor skills, emotional regulation, feeding, sensory processing, social skills, self-care, play skills and school readiness.

  • Working with families

Parents and carers are central to Firm Foundations' approach—the service works collaboratively with families to identify their goals and provide them with the information and skills needed to support their child's development. Sessions can be structured as direct therapy with the child and parent present, or as coaching sessions focused on building parent and caregiver capacity. The mobile, community-based model means therapists come to families' homes or chosen environments, making it easier for parents to be involved without additional travel or coordination. This partnership approach recognises that families are best placed to support their child's learning in everyday situations.
