Our approach
Sessions use a family-centred approach with a particular emphasis on early intervention and collaborating with families, schools and community services. The therapist works with children one-on-one in home and community settings, targeting communication skills including articulation, early language, receptive and expressive language, social communication and phonological awareness. Each 60-minute appointment includes 50 minutes of face-to-face therapy and parent education, plus 10 minutes for case notes. The focus is on achieving the best language and speech outcomes through meaningful engagement in real-world environments.
Working with families
Parent involvement is central to the service, with the family-centred approach embedded throughout all work. Each 50-minute therapy session includes parent education alongside face-to-face therapy with the child. The therapist collaborates with families, schools and community services to support consistent communication development across all of a child's environments. This partnership approach ensures families understand strategies and progress, and can reinforce learning at home and in the community.
Meet the team
The team consists of a certified practising speech pathologist with a Bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology and registration with Speech Pathology Australia. Additional qualifications include training in Hanen Programs, It Takes Two to Talk, and Learning Language and Loving It. The therapist brings over 17 years of experience working with children and families across both public and private sectors, with more than 12 years at the Royal Children's Hospital in the Early Childhood Intervention team.
Your first visit
An initial appointment begins as a one-off consultation to discuss your child's speech and language needs and determine whether speech therapy is required. If therapy is recommended, appointments are typically scheduled fortnightly initially, though weekly and monthly options are available. No referral is needed to commence—you can contact the therapist directly to arrange the first consultation. The assessment (for ages 3-12) or initial therapy session will evaluate articulation, language skills, social communication and phonological awareness relevant to your child's age and needs.
