• Our approach

  At Educare Sydney, students work in a stimulating environment focused on unlocking their unique insights and developing authentic written and verbal communication skills. The teaching philosophy emphasises understanding the philosophy and design of the HSC syllabus first, then developing genuine critical thinking skills rather than relying on templates or generic approaches. Sessions include detailed written feedback, reading comprehension work that immediately assesses understanding, and audio components that strengthen listening and communication. Video recordings of all sessions enable students to review important written and analytical components, and parents can access these recordings to observe their child's learning and the nature of instruction. The approach draws on the tutor's background in linguistics, literature, history and languages to provide a holistic understanding of texts within their historical, socio-political and philosophical contexts.

• Working with families

  Parents have access to video recordings of all sessions, allowing them to observe their child's learning and gain insight into the nature of instruction provided. Consultations help parents understand their child's strengths and weaknesses in detail, enabling them to make informed decisions about what support their child needs. The tutor provides extremely detailed written feedback on student work, and parents can discuss this feedback and their child's progress. Communication is facilitated through phone, email, and in-person contact to support families in understanding their child's academic journey and the strategies being employed.

• Meet the team

  Gabriella Nagata is the sole tutor and director of Educare Sydney. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English literature and history, and holds a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics from UNSW, with specialisation in syllabus and curriculum design. With over 25 years of teaching experience in NSW private and public schools, she has extensive expertise in HSC marking, HSC text notes publishing, and teaching Advanced English. Her background includes work with the Department of Education in Israel and an educational publishing firm in Japan, and she is fluent in French, Italian and Hebrew. As the sole instructor, she personally prepares, facilitates and teaches all classes and is actively responsible for monitoring the progress of each student.

• Your first visit

  A consultation appointment is 60 minutes in length and serves as a diagnostic evaluation to determine whether your child needs tuition and identify their specific strengths and weaknesses. The tutor examines the calibre of evidence in your child's written work, looking beyond marks alone to understand the substance and quality of their literary analysis and grammatical skills. This assessment pinpoints specific academic aspects that require improvement, such as textual evidence quality, thesis argument support, or writing structure. Parents receive clear feedback on the literary or grammatical impediments that may impact student performance. These consulting sessions are diagnostic in nature and designed to help families decide what kind of help, if any, their child requires.
