Our approach
The practice uses genuinely individualised, evidence-based therapy rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Sessions are grounded in evidence-based methods like CBT and ACT, tailored to each child's unique circumstances and strengths. The psychologists value building strong therapeutic relationships where young people feel comfortable, understood and supported, believing that therapy can be both meaningful and enjoyable. Treatment is thorough and investigative, looking beyond symptoms to understand the factors contributing to challenges. The practice is committed to the highest ethical standards while keeping sessions engaging and down-to-earth rather than clinical or impersonal.
Working with families
Parents are actively involved from the start through intake forms that provide insights into the presenting issue and history to assist with sessions. The practice offers parent coaching as a critical component of effective behaviour management, including identifying challenges in current systems, improving consistency between parents and implementing effective reward systems and routines. Psychologists work closely within family and school contexts, fostering collaboration with important adults in the child's life. Communication occurs through consent forms that clarify which professionals the service is permitted to liaise with, and teachers can also complete educator forms providing insights into the child's academic functioning.
Meet the team
The team includes Damien Tuffano, the Principal Clinical Psychologist with almost 20 years' experience working with young people and families, known for his energetic and approachable style. Polly Havard is a registered psychologist with a keen interest in anxiety, depression, ADHD and emotion regulation, with particular expertise in psychometric testing including cognitive and ADHD assessments. Joseph Croguennec is a registered psychologist who works within family and school contexts, passionate about mood, anxiety, ADHD and ASD presentations. Caitlin Hill is a clinical psychologist available Saturdays who supports children, adolescents and young adults with anxiety, depression, social difficulties and behavioural challenges, with particular interest in supporting parents and families managing chronic health issues. All psychologists use evidence-based approaches and value genuine therapeutic relationships.
Your first visit
Your first session includes a thorough investigation of your child's presenting concern along with a detailed history, providing sufficient information to identify goals and determine what assessments or treatment will be needed. You'll be asked to complete several forms before the session, including a parent intake form and consent forms, which help the psychologist understand your child's background and any professionals they're authorised to contact. The session allows the psychologist to gather comprehensive information in a structured way, ensuring nothing important is missed. Although a referral isn't required, it's strongly recommended as you may be eligible for a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan, which provides rebates of $149.05 per session for a Clinical Psychologist or $101.55 for a Registered Psychologist.
