• Our approach

  Coolbellup Learning Centre uses a range of specialist teaching methods tailored to each student's individual needs, including ABA, TEACCH, PECS, explicit teaching, direct instruction, and play-based learning. The centre delivers Individualised Education Programs (IEPs) in a supportive environment that combines life skills, functional programs with academic learning, encouraging students to develop independence and reach their personal best. Specialist programs are offered in autism intervention, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), social skills, protective behaviours, and fundamental movement skills. Staff participate in ongoing professional learning to enhance their practices, and the centre works collaboratively with parents, carers, and therapists to ensure students acquire the skills they need to participate actively in their communities.

• Working with families

  Individual Education Programs are developed in collaboration with parents and carers, along with school and interagency staff. The centre works with parents, carers, and therapists to ensure student outcomes are met across all programs. Parents and carers are encouraged to visit the centre, and the website indicates that staff communicate with families to deliver a holistic range of learning opportunities and to foster positive relationships that support the best outcomes for students.

• Meet the team

  All staff at Coolbellup Learning Centre are specialist trained and experienced in catering for students with high support needs. The team includes teachers and education assistants who participate in professional learning programs, and specialist teachers for programs such as Autism Intervention, AAC, and the iPad program. The centre has highly accomplished staff, including two teachers who won the WA Education Support Principals' and Administrators Association's Primary Teacher of the Year Award, and one teacher who won the Apple Educator and NEiTA Awards. Staff have developed strong, positive relationships with students and families to foster the best possible outcomes.
