  • Our approach

Connected Kids uses individually tailored therapy sessions to address each child's specific communication needs. The team employs evidence-based approaches including Hanen programs (It Takes Two To Talk and More Than Words), Sounds-Write, Read3, and specialised training in speech sound disorders, feeding, and alternative and augmentative communication. Sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly, with the clinic emphasizing that therapy success requires a team effort involving parents and carers. Family-based early intervention and play-based approaches are integrated throughout their practice, with clinicians trained in strategies like DIR Floortime and Social Thinking to support children's overall social communication development.

  • Working with families

The clinic is committed to working with families as partners in their child's progress, recognising that therapy success depends on the amount and quality of practice done between appointments at home. Parents and carers provide detailed case history information at the first appointment and are involved in goal-setting and planning. Regular therapy sessions are individually tailored, and the clinic emphasises a team effort approach where family engagement and home practice are essential to achieving the child's communication goals.

  • Meet the team

The clinic is led by Jeanie Welch, Director and Senior Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, who is Hanen-certified with specialised training in speech sound disorders, tongue tie assessment, paediatric feeding, and early language intervention programs. Kathryn Hughes is a Senior Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with experience in complex communication needs and neurodivergent disorders, trained in DIR Floortime and alternative and augmentative communication approaches. Lauren Lorandi, Hanan El Hage, and Charlotte Hubble are Certified Practising Speech Pathologists with expertise in areas including speech sound disorders, early language, autism spectrum disorder, literacy, and fluency. The team is supported by administrative staff including a Practice Manager and receptionists, with all clinicians committed to ongoing professional development and specialised training.

  • Your first visit

In the first appointment, the clinic will establish rapport with your child and conduct observations to help with planning. A detailed case history will be taken from parents or caregivers, and screening tasks may be completed depending on your concerns and your child's individual needs. Based on these findings, the therapist may recommend formal assessment tasks to guide the development of an individualised intervention plan tailored to your child's goals.
