Our approach
CommuniKids uses a collaborative approach to speech therapy, recognising that children benefit when their families play a positive role in supporting them. The team values input from teachers and other health professionals who know the child. Each child receives an individual speech therapy plan tailored to their specific needs, starting with a comprehensive assessment. Sessions focus on helping children overcome communication difficulties while having fun, with the goal of enabling them to become effective, confident communicators. The therapists work across a broad range of speech, language, literacy and communication needs using various evidence-based treatment systems.
Working with families
CommuniKids recognises that families play a vital role in their child's progress and uses a collaborative approach that actively involves parents and carers. The team values communication and cooperation with families, as well as with teachers and other professionals involved in the child's care. By involving parents in the therapy process, the service aims to help families feel confident in supporting their children and achieving agreed therapy goals together.
Your first visit
At the first appointment, CommuniKids conducts a comprehensive assessment to understand your child's speech and language development and identify any areas of difficulty. The assessment is bespoke to your child's needs and forms the foundation for creating an individual speech therapy plan. The team uses their expertise and experience in speech pathology to thoroughly evaluate your child's communication skills across different areas. This initial assessment allows the therapists to understand your child's unique situation and determine the best course of support moving forward.
