• Our approach

  Boost uses a collaborative, child-centred approach that builds strong relationships with children and families to create meaningful change in everyday life. Sessions focus on the child's individual interests and strengths to make therapy engaging and relevant. Mel supports children across self-care, play and social skills, fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, and emotional development. She recognises that children need support to master new skills expected of them, and that parents also benefit from external support. Sessions include coaching and discussion with parents to help extend learning at home, school and other settings.

  Mel prides herself on building strong collaborative relationships with families and works closely with parents and carers throughout therapy. She supports families using coaching and discussion to help children progress at home, school and other settings. She recognises that parenting is a big job and provides parents with external support when needed. The service communicates with families from initial contact through an initial phone call to discuss needs and costs, ensuring families are informed and involved in decision-making throughout their child's care.

• Meet the team

  Mel Kelly is a Paediatric Occupational Therapist with over 20 years of experience working in private practice, schools, and early intervention services. She has recently worked in a tertiary clinical education role teaching future OTs how to provide client-centred, evidence-based assessment and therapy in face-to-face and telehealth settings. As a mother of three school-aged children, she brings both extensive clinical experience and personal understanding of educational settings and what it means to be a parent to young children.

• Your first visit

  During an initial phone call, the service will discuss your child's needs and the different options available, along with associated costs. The cost of the initial consultation varies depending on your child's individual needs. No referral is required to access services. Sessions can take place at the clinic in Upper Mount Gravatt, via telehealth from home, or occasionally at your home or school if mutually agreed. This initial conversation helps ensure the service is a good fit for your family's circumstances.
