Our approach
Bluebird creates a warm and inviting space with comfortable lighting, cosy music, drink options and friendly, compassionate team members. The therapeutic approach is tailored to your individual experiences and needs, using a strengths-based framework that identifies your unique abilities and supports you to build on these in ways that foster growth and wellbeing. The practice embraces a neuroaffirming approach that honours the diversity of human experience and each person's unique neurology. Psychologists use evidence-based therapies chosen to suit individual needs, and aim to create tangible change while prioritising your own life experience, preferences and goals. Psychological therapy is an individual journey involving discussion of life experiences, collaborative exploration of concerns, and working on strategies to promote wellbeing, allowing you to build habits and skills that remain with you for life.
Working with families
For children and teens aged 17 and under, first appointments are generally conducted as a parent or guardian session without the child present, though some older teens (approximately 16 and up) may wish to attend with their parent or guardian. The second appointment is conducted as a predominantly child-focused session with the child in attendance. Regular parent sessions are recommended so the psychologist and parents or guardians can collaborate around the child's ongoing care. The client care team is available to assist you in choosing the clinician best suited to your situation, with the understanding that the relationship someone has with their therapist is the most significant predictor of positive therapy outcomes.
Meet the team
The team includes qualified psychologists who are members of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc and/or the Australian Psychological Society. Psychologists hold qualifications including Bachelor of Science in Psychology and graduate diplomas, with several holding clinical registrar or clinical psychologist status. The team also includes registered provisional psychologists trained in various therapeutic modalities, an art therapist, and client support staff. Team members have been selected not just for their qualifications and skill sets, but for their compassion and who they are as humans. Psychologists have experience across the lifespan with diverse presentations including ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, trauma and eating disorders, and several have particular interests in neurodiversity-affirming practice.
Your first visit
When you first contact the practice, the client care team will guide you through a brief intake conversation by phone to learn about your support needs and discuss which psychologist may be best suited to supporting you. You will then be booked in for your first three sessions and sent appointment information by email. At your first appointment, you'll be greeted and offered a drink as you settle in. Your psychologist will welcome you into the therapy room and discuss important information about the therapy process, then begin to learn about your lifestyle, current and past struggles, your goals for the future, and your priorities for sessions. Following your initial session, a short letter will be sent to your referring healthcare professional if you have been referred, and you'll return to the front desk to process payment and confirm future bookings.
