  • Our approach

Birchtree specialises in trauma-informed care delivered with patience and compassion. Sessions are guided by experienced therapists who listen to your story and support your path to healing within a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic space. The centre offers individual therapy, group-based support, and specialised body-based therapies such as trauma-sensitive yoga. The approach combines multiple therapies and education programs designed to help you understand your experiences and build a foundation for recovery from complex trauma. You'll work with clinicians trained in complex trauma who gently guide you through exploring your past and its impact on your present.

  • Meet the team

Birchtree has a team of over 50 clinicians, all trained in complex trauma, including Clinical Psychologists, Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Psychotherapists and Counsellors. Clinicians set their own fees and working hours, and are allocated to clients based on their relevant experience, qualifications and expertise to match your specific areas of concern and needs. The admin team supports appointment booking and general enquiries during business hours. The centre also has specialised teams at two locations (Forest Lodge and Pymble) to serve clients across the Sydney area.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment is arranged directly with your allocated clinician, who will call you to schedule the session and give you a chance to ask questions about costs, availability and any other concerns. At this initial contact, you can discuss fees, days available, and how the therapist works. The centre recommends meeting with your clinician at least once to establish whether you feel it's a good fit. If for any reason the match doesn't feel right, you can request to be re-added to the waiting list to see a different clinician. Having a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP before your first session will allow you to access 10 partly subsidised sessions on Medicare.
