  • Our approach

Believe and Become uses a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed approach that celebrates the authentic selves of children and young people. Sessions draw on occupational therapy and play therapy, helping children to understand their world, express themselves, and develop skills in areas that matter to them. The clinic offers individual occupational therapy sessions, play therapy, and various therapeutic approaches including AutPlay Therapy and Digital Play Therapy, with the therapeutic relationship itself built on acceptance, safety, and trust. Your child is supported to discover their own strengths, develop self-regulation and emotional awareness, and work towards meaningful goals tailored to their individual needs and interests.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is integral to the therapeutic process at Believe and Become. Parents and carers receive psychoeducation and education about their child's needs, and the team works collaboratively with families to understand and support their child's journey. The clinic also offers neurodiversity-affirming parenting sessions focused on enhancing the parent-child relationship, where parents are supported to explore their own needs and build on existing skills in a non-judgemental space. Parent and peer support groups (including monthly mums' groups, a dads' group, and crafty connections peer groups) provide opportunities for parents and carers to connect, learn from each other, and access professional support in a shared community setting.

  • Meet the team

The team includes Dr Nicole Sharp (Clinical Director and Occupational Therapist with a PhD in Disability Studies and extensive experience in neurodivergent-affirming practice), Ally Dodd (Senior Occupational Therapist with expertise in developmental and mental health needs), Melissa Engel and Sophie Giannetta (both registered Occupational Therapists), Bree Barker (Occupational Therapy Assistant with qualifications in play therapy and child/adolescent counselling), and Sarah D'Arcangelo (Occupational Therapy Assistant).
