About Beginnings OT
Beginnings OT is a children's occupational therapy service in Adelaide's inner southern suburbs, specialising in working with children aged 0 to 6 years. They provide community-based intervention in the child's own settings including home, child care, kindergarten and school.

Functional Capacity Assessments
A comprehensive assessment — typically conducted by an occupational therapist or allied health professional — that evaluates how a person's disability or health condition affects their ability to carry out daily tasks. The report is used to determine NDIS funding needs and plan appropriate supports.

Our approach
Beginnings OT implements a holistic, strengths and interests-based approach tailored to each child's individual needs. Therapy is delivered in community-based settings including the child's home, child care, kindergarten and school, and incorporates working collaboratively with families, carers, educators and other allied health professionals. Sessions address a range of areas including play skills, motor development, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and self-care skills. The service draws on evidence-based training in areas such as sleep support, toileting interventions, play-based learning, trauma-informed practice, sensory integration and neuro-affirming principles to support maximal functional outcomes.
Working with families
Collaboration with families is central to the service approach. Kate's particular interest is working with the team around each child, which explicitly includes their family and carers as key members. Families are involved in the goal-setting and intervention-planning process, and therapy is delivered within your child's natural settings such as home and child care, enabling you to be part of sessions and learn strategies to support your child's development.
Meet the team
Beginnings OT is run by Kate Duckworth, the founder and Occupational Therapist, who holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from the University of South Australia (2006). Kate brings extensive experience from working in community paediatrics in both Australia and the UK, across government, not-for-profit and private practice settings, including senior clinical and leadership roles. She specialises in working with children aged 0-6 years with a range of developmental difficulties, and continues to expand her expertise through ongoing professional development in areas such as sleep support, toileting interventions, trauma-informed practice, sensory integration and neuro-affirming approaches.
Your first visit
Your first appointment involves an intake and screening process, followed by a comprehensive assessment to understand your child's needs and strengths. Following this, goal setting occurs in partnership with you, and an intervention plan is developed tailored specifically to your child's situation. The service then provides therapy and intervention with regular reviews to monitor progress. Since each child is different, the process is individualised to suit your family's circumstances.
Beginnings OT is not currently listed as a registered NDIS provider on the NDIS Commission register. They may still support plan-managed or self-managed NDIS participants — contact them to confirm.
