Our approach
Art therapy and psychology combine to support children and adolescents through a creative, therapeutically guided process. Sessions involve drawing, painting, sculpting, colouring or sewing in a safe space where the therapist helps explore complex emotions and thoughts that may be difficult to express through words alone. The approach is grounded in evidence-based theory including trauma-informed care, psychodynamic theory, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behaviour theory and mindfulness. Art-based techniques and materials are carefully chosen for each child's unique needs. Through exploring the artworks created together, the therapist gently guides the child to understand underlying emotions and unconscious thoughts, fostering personal growth and enhanced wellbeing over time.
Meet the team
Jodi Power is the registered psychologist and art therapist delivering services at ArtPsych, holding a Master of Art Therapy, Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology, and Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement. She is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) and has been in practice as a registered psychologist since 1999 and as an art therapist since 2016. Jodi brings extensive experience from twenty-one years working in the Victorian Education system, providing assessments and interventions directly with children and families, with over fifteen years specifically in comprehensive cognitive and academic assessments. Her practice is grounded in evidence-based theory and she is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Australia & New Zealand Art Therapy Association (ANZATA).
