• Our approach

  At Advantage Therapy, sessions are guided by a neurodivergent-affirming philosophy that views autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental differences as natural variations, not problems to be fixed. Rather than focusing on changing behaviours, therapists work to understand each child's strengths, sensory preferences, and unique ways of connecting. Many sessions use the DIR Floortime approach, a play-based, relationship-centred model where therapists follow the child's lead, join their interests, and build communication and problem-solving skills through joyful interaction. Families are guided on how to apply these principles at home so therapy progress continues in everyday routines. All services—occupational therapy, speech therapy, and recreational activities—are delivered with a warm, child-led approach that helps children feel safe, confident, and understood.

• Working with families

  Family involvement is central to therapy at Advantage Therapy. Parents and carers are encouraged to share their concerns, observations, and feedback throughout the process, and therapists collaborate closely with families to understand each child's unique goals and home environment. Parental coaching is offered to strengthen parent-child relationships, reduce stress, and create a nurturing family environment. Families are given practical strategies and guidance on how to use therapy principles during everyday routines at home. Communication between therapists and families is prioritised, with regular reporting on progress and ongoing consultation to refine approaches together.

• Meet the team

  The team includes experienced Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistants, Parental Coaches, Special Education Consultants, and Behaviour Therapists. Speech Pathologists hold qualifications from accredited universities and are registered with Speech Pathology Australia; many hold advanced certifications in DIR Floortime, Hanen programs, AAC, and neurodiversity-affirming practice. Occupational Therapists include specialists trained in DIR Floortime, sensory integration, play-based therapy, and trauma-sensitive practice, with several holding additional qualifications in functional independence and evidence-based interventions. The team is led by clinical leadership including a Clinical Manager/Senior Occupational Therapist and senior therapists, all committed to delivering evidence-based, innovative care.

• Your first visit

  At the first appointment, your child will undergo an in-depth assessment to identify their strengths, needs, and goals. Your concerns and observations will be gathered to help diagnose what's affecting your child. A personalised treatment plan is then created based on your child's age, trauma history, behaviour patterns, and other individual factors. The assessment process is designed to be thorough and accurate, ensuring the therapist understands your family's unique situation before therapy begins. You'll have the opportunity to discuss the findings and next steps with the team.
