Our approach
ACPC Psychology uses a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to each young person's needs and presenting difficulties. Treatment may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), Interpersonal Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Neuropsychotherapy, modified for each case to ensure effectiveness. Sessions are delivered online in the home environment where young people are comfortable, with the psychologist working collaboratively and respectfully to address concerns and teach skills specific to the child's difficulties. The approach emphasises building a strong therapeutic relationship, with the psychologist aiming to be attentive, knowledgeable, and working alongside families throughout the intervention process.
Working with families
Parents and caregivers are central to the service, with the initial interview (for children under 18) conducted with parents only to ensure privacy and allow families to determine if the clinician is suitable for their child. The psychologist works collaboratively with families throughout the process, providing feedback, recommendations, and planning next steps together. Communications are tailored to each family's needs and circumstances, and the service emphasises continuous engagement and genuine understanding of family needs. You can prepare your child for psychology by explaining the appointment at their developmental level, assuring them of confidentiality, and reassuring them that you'll be present or nearby during sessions.
Meet the team
The Head Psychologist is Azza Brown, an Educational & Developmental Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist. The website indicates the team possesses high-quality professionalism with extensive experience in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a range of childhood, adolescent and young people presentations including behavioural, emotional, social, developmental and psychological difficulties. Team members have strong skills in rapport building and work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, general practitioners, specialists, schools and other allied health services to provide assessment and interventions for children and young people with mild, moderate and complex presentations.
Your first visit
At the first appointment, parents of children under 18 will meet with the psychologist for an initial interview to discuss concerns and gather information about the young person's developmental, family, behavioural, social and emotional history. For young people aged 18 and over, the initial interview is booked directly with them. Before the session, you'll complete consent forms, payment details, and questionnaires via the booking system. The psychologist will explain whether assessments are warranted and discuss the assessment process with you, then provide feedback, recommendations, and collaboratively plan next steps to address your concerns.
