Our approach
Ability Beyond Therapy creates a fun, play-based environment where children are actively engaged in learning while pursuing their goals. Sessions focus on building functional independence across daily activities, school readiness, sensory processing, and community participation. The therapy approach emphasises the child's strengths while providing "just right challenge" through sensory-based interventions tailored to each child's unique profile and needs. Therapists use a transdisciplinary model and work collaboratively with families to embed practical strategies into everyday routines. For children with feeding difficulties, a specialised Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach is offered, though it may be customised with behavioural elements depending on what works best for each child.
Working with families
Parent involvement is central to therapy at Ability Beyond Therapy. Families are encouraged to actively participate in sessions, and the service is dedicated to coaching families to become confident advocates and embed practical strategies into daily routines so progress translates into real-life outcomes. Communication is collaborative—therapists listen to what matters most to families and work together with parents to set goals and discuss the approach at every step. The model emphasises family empowerment and supporting both children and their families to develop the skills needed for successful everyday participation.
Meet the team
The team includes Debu Mondal, an AHPRA-registered lead occupational therapist with 24 years of experience, including 14 years in paediatric therapy and autism assessment training; Bec Graham, a certified speech pathologist with over seven years' experience in community and specialist settings, trained in neurodevelopmental assessment and multimodal communication; Pallavi Hardikar, an AHPRA-registered physiotherapist with 12+ years in paediatric care and a Master's degree in Paediatric Physiotherapy; and Happy Banik, an AHPRA-registered occupational therapist with 18 years' experience across rehabilitation, hospitals, and community health, specialising in home modifications and equipment prescriptions. All team members work in a collaborative, family-centred model.
Your first visit
The first appointment involves understanding your family's goals and what matters most to you. The therapist will discuss your child's development, strengths, and areas needing support, then create an individualised plan tailored to your family's priorities. Sessions can be centre-based at the Mill Park Sensory Gym or in your home, kindergarten, childcare, or community settings across most Hume and Whittlesea areas. The therapists work with you to build routines and strategies that support your child's participation in their everyday environments. Every step of the way, the provider discusses the approach and customises it based on factors specific to your child's needs.
