  • Our approach

At Wonder Words, therapy is rooted in the belief that communication is the foundation of meaningful relationships and independence. Sessions are designed to be engaging, fun, and meaningful, with a strong emphasis on finding the fun in the learning process. The team takes a neurodiversity-affirming approach, celebrating each child's unique strengths and differences, and works collaboratively with families and educators to ensure therapy goals extend into everyday environments. Sessions are typically 45 minutes of direct therapy, with the remainder covering session notes and home practice resources. The approach respects each child's pace and preferences, creating a supportive, nurturing environment where all children feel understood and encouraged to communicate in their own way.

  • Working with families

The provider places strong emphasis on collaboration with parents and carers at every stage. Parents participate in detailed case history discussions at the initial consultation and receive verbal summaries with recommendations immediately after. Written session notes are emailed to families after each session and can be shared with teachers with consent. The speech pathologist may request information from your child's teacher or educator, keeping parents informed throughout. Therapy goals are reviewed and updated following each block of sessions, with progress discussed regularly with parents and measured formally at the end of therapy blocks. The provider works closely with parents, educators, and other professionals to ensure therapy goals extend beyond sessions and into real-life learning environments at school, childcare, and home.

Several clinicians hold advanced certifications in evidence-based programs such as Hanen training, Sounds-Write, DIR Floortime, and AAC device training. The team also includes Allied Health Assistants (AHA) who support therapy sessions under clinician supervision, a Clinical Operations Manager, clinical leaders, and administrative support staff. All speech pathologists are registered with Speech Pathology Australia and committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based services with diligence and dedication.

  • Your first visit

Before your first appointment, you'll complete an online intake form to provide background information about your child and reasons for referral, and can attach previous developmental reports. NDIS clients have a 30-minute call beforehand to gather case history and prepare the clinic space based on your child's preferences. At the initial consultation, the speech pathologist discusses your child's history with parents and completes screening and clinical observations through various engaging tasks. At the end of this session, you'll receive a verbal summary and recommendations, and the pathologist may request information from your child's teacher or educator with your consent. A detailed written summary report is then provided, outlining your child's strengths and weaknesses, assessment results, recommendations, goals, and a therapy plan.
