  • Our approach

At The Speech Nest, therapy is individually tailored to each child's strengths, interests, and specific needs, with a focus on making sessions engaging, meaningful, and effective. The approach is evidence-based and professional, with sessions conducted in a welcoming, home-based clinic setting where children feel understood, listened to, safe, and respected. The therapist works collaboratively with families and other professionals in the child's life—such as teachers, daycare workers, and other specialists—to support the child's development. Sessions include planning and preparation with therapy goals specific to your child, followed by the individual therapy appointment itself, plus preparation of home practice activities and strategies to extend learning beyond the clinic. The philosophy centres on the belief that children learn best in a supportive environment where connection, consistency, and fun are prioritised.

  • Working with families

The Speech Nest strongly believes that working together in a supportive environment provides the greatest benefit for you and your child. The therapist values connecting with other professionals in your child's life—such as teachers, daycare workers, and other health professionals—to help coordinate support and maximise progress. Home practice activities and strategies are prepared, discussed, and provided to extend learning outside the clinic sessions. You're welcome to contact the clinic even before you're ready to book an appointment, simply to chat about your concerns and what to expect from speech therapy. The therapist is accessible by phone, text, and email, aiming to get back to you within 24 hours.

  • Meet the team

The Speech Nest is led by Peta, a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist and member of Speech Pathology Australia with over 14 years of experience working across government-funded, school-based, and private speech therapy services. She has special interests in speech sound disorders and executive functioning, and has completed additional training in PROMPT and DTTC. Peta is committed to ongoing learning and development so that children always benefit from the latest evidence-based approaches. As a sole practitioner, she focuses on specific areas to ensure she has the necessary training, assessments, and therapy resources to support families effectively.

  • Your first visit

Getting started involves contacting the clinic to discuss your concerns and appointment availability. You'll choose from different speech and language assessment options tailored to your child's age and your specific concerns, with most assessments lasting about 60 minutes. Before the appointment, you'll complete some paperwork to help the therapist prepare. After the assessment is completed, results are analysed and you're offered a feedback session to discuss the findings and decide on next steps, which might include home ideas, a report for school, discussion of different service options, or booking ongoing therapy at The Speech Nest. The goal is for you to be informed and supported to make the decision that fits best for your family, with no obligation to proceed further if you prefer not to.
