  • Our approach

Therapy is delivered in your child's natural environment—home, school or kindergarten—where they feel safe and supported. This strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach builds connection, confidence and real-world skills in communication, regulation, motor development and daily living from day one. Sessions are individualised, tailored to each child's needs, interests and environments. The team works collaboratively with families and educators to ensure therapy is practical and meaningful, with skills actively supported across all settings. Both in-person and telehealth options are available to suit your family's needs.

  • Working with families

The team works collaboratively with families from the start, taking time to understand your goals and tailoring therapy accordingly. Skills developed in therapy are actively supported at home, school and community settings through ongoing collaboration with families and educators. The clinicians work closely with parents to identify strengths and overcome barriers to participation in daily life, ensuring therapy outcomes are practical and meaningful for your family.

  • Meet the team

The team includes Moumin Shepherd (Director), who manages intake, onboarding and service coordination; Marjana Hussien (Head Speech Pathologist), a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with expertise in speech sounds, language, AAC and early intervention; Reet Tucker (Occupational Therapist), qualified with three years of experience in mental health services and neurodiversity support; Veronica Saad (Speech Pathologist), supporting school-aged children with speech, language and social communication; Amrutha Murthy (Occupational Therapist), a paediatric OT focused on motor skills and school readiness; and Ish Parmar (Speech Pathologist), a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with school-based experience in literacy and language. All clinicians are qualified and bring experience in neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based practice.

  • Your first visit

Your journey begins with an initial consultation to understand your child and your goals. A comprehensive assessment follows, evaluating sensory processing, regulation and functional skills where needed to build a clear picture of your child's strengths and support needs. From there, individualised therapy sessions are designed to target meaningful participation and independence across your child's everyday life. Throughout the process, the team remains focused on creating practical outcomes that matter for your family.

How do I connect with Talknest?

You can call +61 1300 845 183, email them and visit their website.

Do I need a referral to see a speech pathologist?

No referral is needed to see one privately. You only need a GP referral if you want to access Medicare rebates or are going through certain funded pathways.

Is speech therapy covered by the NDIS?

It can be, usually under Capacity Building / Improved Daily Living, if it aligns with your child's plan goals. Check your plan or ask your support coordinator.

At what age should we see a speech pathologist?

There's no "too early." If you have concerns about your child's talking or understanding at any age, an assessment can clarify whether support would help.

How long are sessions and how many will we need?

Session length varies between clinics and services, so check it with the provider when you book. The number depends on your child's goals; the pathologist will recommend a plan after the initial assessment.
