  • Our approach

At Palms, therapy is focused on practical, real-world outcomes that help children move better, communicate more confidently, and develop independence in their daily lives. The team takes a person-centred approach, working closely with families as therapy partners to ensure strategies carry over from the clinic into home, school and community settings. Sessions are tailored to each child's goals and routines, combining evidence-based assessment with hands-on treatment where appropriate, plus clear exercise and self-management strategies. Rather than "holding the tools," the therapists teach, coach, guide and empower families to confidently use strategies in everyday life. The focus is always on building confidence, function and participation in activities that matter most to the child and family.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to the Palms approach—parents and carers are actively treated as therapy partners, not passive observers. The team works closely with families to understand routines, goals and what success looks like for their child, and therapy is built around this shared understanding. Strategies are designed to carry over into everyday environments including home, school and community, with the team providing coaching and guidance to help families confidently use these approaches outside the clinic. Regular communication and collaboration between therapists and families ensures that progress happens in real life, not just during therapy sessions.

  • Meet the team

The team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and exercise physiologists who are experienced in supporting children, adults and older adults across a wide range of presentations. Each therapist is trained in evidence-based practice and brings specialised knowledge in their field—from developmental support and communication needs through to injury rehabilitation and chronic condition management. The team is warm, practical and person-centred, treating parents and carers as therapy partners. Palms operates across two locations (Noranda and Malaga) with dedicated therapy spaces including a paediatric therapy gym, rehabilitation facilities, sensory room and private consultation rooms equipped for comprehensive assessment and hands-on treatment.

It can be, usually under Capacity Building / Improved Daily Living, if it aligns with your child's plan goals. Check your plan or ask your support coordinator.

There's no "too early." If you have concerns about your child's talking or understanding at any age, an assessment can clarify whether support would help.

How long are sessions and how many will we need?

Session length varies between clinics and services, so check it with the provider when you book. The number depends on your child's goals; the pathologist will recommend a plan after the initial assessment.
