  • Our approach

Each child is recognised as an individual within their family, and My Child Speech Pathology uses a family-centred practice approach to support development, learning and personal growth. Sessions are designed to be as enjoyable and engaging as possible, often involving play-based activities tailored to the child's needs. The team works with families to create a personalised treatment plan that considers the family's situation and may include therapy sessions, home-based support strategies, and collaboration with teachers at kinder or school. The goal is to help children develop the speech, language, communication and literacy skills they need to participate fully in family, social and educational life, feeling comfortable and connected in each setting.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to the service, with My Child Speech Pathology using a family-centred practice approach that recognises each child as part of their family. The team communicates directly with parents and carers throughout the assessment and treatment process, working together to create personalised treatment plans. Support may include therapy sessions with the team as well as guidance for families to work with their children at home, and coordination with teachers at kinder or school. Parents are encouraged to contact the practice to discuss concerns and explore whether speech pathology may be helpful for their child.

  • Meet the team

My Child Speech Pathology is led by Jane Crook (BSpPath, GradDipEdu Primary) and Jen Knowles (MSpPath), both Certified Practicing Speech Pathologists with extensive paediatric experience. Jane is a qualified primary school teacher with recent experience supporting children's communication and literacy development in a primary school setting. Jen has a background in family-centred and strengths-based early childhood intervention, works with school-aged children across all areas of speech, language and communication, and is trained in the Sounds Write literacy program.

  • Your first visit

At the initial visit, the team will ask detailed questions to learn about the child and their family, understand your concerns, and complete a comprehensive assessment. The assessment process is designed to be enjoyable and engaging for children and typically involves play-based activities. Following the assessment, results are used alongside information from other sources to determine whether the child needs additional support and how best to address identified areas of concern. The team will then work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan that considers your family's situation to ensure the best outcomes for your child.
