Our approach

Melbourne IQ provides cognitive (IQ) testing to understand how children think and learn. Each assessment includes a careful review of your child's medical and developmental history, a parent interview, and observation of your child's behaviour during the session. Your child will complete a cognitive test—such as the WPPSI-IV, WISC-V or WNV—which is tailored to their age and abilities. The clinic specialises in two types of assessment: identifying intellectual giftedness and understanding cognitive or learning difficulties. All assessments conclude with a formal written report and a feedback session to discuss the results with you.

Working with families

Parents are actively involved from the start, with a dedicated parent interview as part of the initial assessment where you can share your child's history and concerns. You receive a formal written report detailing the assessment findings and, importantly, a feedback session where results are discussed with you directly. This feedback session ensures you fully understand your child's cognitive profile and the strategies or guidance recommended to support their educational journey.

Meet the team

Melbourne IQ is led by Mariana Antoniou, the Clinic Director and a Registered Psychologist with a Masters of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology) from The University of Melbourne completed in 2014. Mariana has been practising as a Registered Psychologist for 10 years and specialises in delivering cognitive assessments to children of all ages and abilities. She has extensive experience working with children with epilepsy and/or autism spectrum disorder. Mariana does not deliver therapy, focusing exclusively on cognitive assessments.

Your first visit

Your first appointment begins with a review of your child's medical and developmental history, followed by a parent interview where you can discuss your concerns and observations. During the session, your child will be observed and will complete an age-appropriate cognitive (IQ) test delivered by a Registered Psychologist. The appointment concludes with a formal written report and a feedback session where the results are explained to you in detail. This comprehensive initial assessment provides a clear picture of your child's cognitive strengths and any areas of difficulty.
