Our approach
Melbourne Hand Therapy uses a collaborative and individualised approach to treatment, guided by advanced research and practical expertise. Sessions focus on a range of techniques including manual therapy, exercise prescription, and stretching tailored to your specific needs and goals. Following initial assessment, your therapist will guide you through a personalised program of range of motion and strengthening exercises to help you return to the tasks you love and need to do. The clinic treats each person as a whole, recognising that your outcome depends on the collaboration between the best therapist, an educated and supported patient, and involvement of your GP or specialist.
Meet the team
The team comprises over 13 experienced clinicians across multiple locations, including both physiotherapists and occupational therapists who are all university-trained and have completed specialised post-graduate study in hand and upper limb rehabilitation. Therapists have expertise in specific areas including shoulders, wound care (with additional nursing qualifications), sporting backgrounds (including an ex-Olympian), wrist rehabilitation, and tendon and fracture management. The team collectively brings over 157 years of combined experience and works closely with leading hand and upper limb surgeons, rheumatologists, GPs and specialists, with access to a consultant clinical psychologist for patients requiring further specialised care.
Your first visit
Your first appointment begins with an assessment where your therapist will evaluate your injury or condition to recommend the best treatment approach for your individual needs. You should bring any relevant x-rays, scans, test results, your referral (if you have one), and your health fund card to this appointment. If you have workers compensation, TAC or DVA coverage, bring your claim number, accident details and employer information. Your therapist will educate you on your condition and discuss your treatment plan, which may include exercises and equipment such as splints or braces as needed for your recovery.
