  • Our approach

At Little Growers, therapy is grounded in strengths-based, neuro-affirming practices that recognise every child learns differently. Sessions are personalised and tailored to each child's individual needs, incorporating play-based activities and child-led approaches that help children feel safe, seen, and ready to grow. The team uses a range of evidence-based approaches including play, observation, and formal assessments where appropriate. Ongoing collaboration with your child's support network means therapy goals and strategies are regularly reviewed and adjusted to ensure they remain meaningful and effective for your child's growth and communication journey.

  • Working with families

Communication with families is central to the approach at Little Growers, with the practice partnering with parents and carers to support each child's growth. Session summaries are sent to you after each therapy appointment, and there is ongoing collaboration with your child's support network to review goals and adjust intervention approaches as needed. Prior to the initial assessment, a phone call is scheduled to gather key background information about your child's development. The team values working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and care teams to ensure therapy is meaningful and connected to your child's life outside the clinic.

  • Meet the team

The team is led by Delna, the Director and Senior Speech Pathologist with extensive training in evidence-based approaches including speech sound development, orofacial myology, apraxia of speech, and alternative communication systems. Two Allied Health Assistants, Brianna and Zenja, both have backgrounds in supporting children's development—Brianna brings experience as a Pilates instructor and is completing her Bachelor of Speech Pathology, while Zenja has worked in education support and childcare settings and is in her third year of the same degree. Both assistants have university placement experience in speech pathology and are dedicated to creating engaging, supportive environments where children feel empowered to reach their communication goals.

  • Your first visit

Your child's initial assessment begins with a comprehensive case history phone call before the appointment to gather important background information about their development. During the session, the Speech Pathologist will get to know you and your child through play-based activities and conversation to understand their communication strengths and areas for support. Formal standardised assessments may be used where appropriate, involving activities like labelling, describing, and following instructions to gain an understanding of your child's skills compared to peers. The therapist will build trust and help your child feel comfortable through engaging play and discussion of their interests. At the end, you'll discuss next steps and any additional referrals that might be helpful, with assessment length negotiated based on your child's needs.
